Keira Greene, DDS
Dr. Greene graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center Dental School (San Antonio) in 2007. Since graduation, she has gained extensive experience working with all age groups in both clinical settings and private practice. Over that time, she developed a passion for serving the senior community and became aware of the need for better access to dental care. It has become Dr. Greene’s purpose to bring her expertise directly to seniors and others who have limited options for easily obtaining dental services.
Dr. Greene understands the obstacles that patients, their families and their caregivers face on a daily basis and wants to make dental care more convenient and comfortable for everyone involved. Dr. Greene’s ultimate goal is not only to deliver quality dentistry, but to make every patient’s experience as relaxed, positive, and enjoyable as possible.
Over the years, her husband’s career took them to multiple states across the country before they were able to choose Coeur D’Alene, Idaho as home in 2017. Her husband, a physician firmly established in the local health care community, and their two children enjoy skiing, hiking and exploring the great Pacific Northwest.
What are the advantages of providing dental care inside assisted living/nursing home facilities?
Convenience for the patient – we provide dental services according to the patient’s schedule; many patients have good days and bad days and other doctor appointments to attend. By being available for extended periods of time at a given facility, the potential for patients to obtain dental care is much improved. Dr. Greene will see patients on a walk-in basis, with no appointment times to coordinate unless specifically requested.
Convenience for the facility – by providing our services directly inside your facility, there are no dental appointments to schedule and no transportation to coordinate. As mentioned above, there are also no internal appointments to schedule unless requested. Lastly, your residents’ oral health needs are met, making healthier and happier residents!
Why is Dental Care for Seniors Important?
Studies indicate that the ever-growing geriatric population is at an all-time need of dental care, especially those in long-term care facilities.
Emphasis on dental care over the past decades has resulted in many seniors keeping their teeth longer. However, with aging comes changes that pose challenges to maintaining proper oral health and receiving needed dental care.
Reduction in dexterity, dry mouth caused by medical conditions and medication use, cognitive changes, and difficulty swallowing are just a few of the changes that affect the oral health of the senior population.
Access to dental care is often another concern for seniors. Many times the only access is when a problem arises that could have potentially been prevented with more regular dental visits.
Multiple studies also indicate that preventive dental care can help reduce the risk of pneumonia, not to mention dental abscess and possible sepsis.
